It was a surprise to many when former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin joined Lane Kiffin’s staff at USC since Martin had criticized Kiffin for his departure from Knoxville after just one season.
But now we know how Martin, the QB of the Vols’ 1998 national championship team, was convinced to leave his job as Kentucky’s quarterbacks coach to take the same post at USC.
“Once Layla (Kiffin) called my wife, it was over,” Martin said, according to the Los Angeles Times on Thursday, speaking of Kiffin’s wife and her pitch for the Martin family to move to L.A.
Martin’s wife, Toya, has had a musical career and no doubt would like to move back to Los Angeles, which is the epicenter of music and entertainment.
