James Bates fell flat during the open of the Dayton-Xavier telecast on CBS Sports Network this weekend – literally.
A captain on the Florida Gators’ 1996 championship football team, Bates knows how to get up after contact – something he experienced Saturday, when his stool snapped and he hit the deck as he sat alongside Steve Wolf live on the air.
Bates played it off deftly, saying that viewers were about to witness a big-time Atlantic 10 matchup, though he certainly was not sitting on a big-time stool. He was right since the Musketeers defeated the Flyers, 86-83, in an overtime thriller.
