Brian Colleary, who was St. John’s senior associate athletic director for external affairs, was fired by the school on Wednesday for scalping tickets to men’s basketball games, according to the New York Post.
“Following an internal review conducted by the university, Athletics Department employee Brian Colleary has been terminated for inappropriate activities regarding the misappropriation of men’s basketball tickets,’’ the university said in a statement.
The newspaper reported that Colleary was alone in the venture, and the school did not violate any NCAA rules.
Citing a source, the Post reported that Colleary scalped tickets last year for games against Duke and for the Big East Tournament. But one Post source said that the university would not press charges because the amount of money involved was “not significant,” while another source disagreed and said $80,000 changed hands.
Either way, the Post also reported that St. John’s wanted the matter to be dealt with “in-house” and “quickly.”
Stay tuned to see if more details leak out.
