Last Tuesday, Jack Taylor was the talk of the basketball world when he scored an NCAA record 138 points for Division III Grinnell (IA) College — on 52-of-108 shooting (27-of-71 from three) — in a 179–104 win over Faith Baptist Bible.
It didn’t take long for Taylor to come back to earth. The 5-foot-10 sophomore from Wisconsin was held to just 21 points (6 for 21 from the field) as his team fell to William Penn University on Sunday, 131-116.
While Taylor was upset at the loss (along with the rest of his team), he’s appreciative of the humbling after his record-breaking performance.
“To play a team like that was definitely sobering,” he told reporters after the William Penn game. “I got to keep improving my game.”
Hopefully that doesn’t mean he’s gunning for 139 points.
