Ex-OSU HC Tressel Spotted at UCLA?

The rumor mill has been churning in regards to Jim Tressel recently. The vested former Ohio State coach reportedly turned down a shot to land the job at Akron.

Now, Tressel – who has been working as the Indianapolis Colts’ replay coordinator – is being linked to UCLA, which just fired coach Rick Neuheisel.

According to reports, Tressel was seen with Bruins athletic director Dan Guerrero on Monday. Justin Hopkins of 247 Sports, citing a source, tweeted Tuesday that a Tressel sighting at UCLA was true. However, it’s unclear if the iconic coach was, in fact, meeting with Guerrero.

If Tressel were to be hired by the Bruins, it would be a grand slam for the school despite his demise at Ohio State.

Can you imagine a UCLA-Ohio State Rose Bowl with Tressel in a powder blue sweater vest and Meyer in a scarlet windbreaker?

    I was on a Bruin Fansite last Friday and made the suggestion UCLA hire this guy like yesterday. I was called a moron, stupid, lazy and and f-ing idiot to think UCLA would hire Tressel. I’m not sure if these sighting reports are true? If they hire Tressel, the non-football playing nerds that have the loudest voice will go bonkers along with USC fans. It’s a longshot and maybe wishfull thinking but would love to see this. Went to Ohio St fansite and its totally different, even with Meyer, they still rave about Tressel.

    This would be a great hire for UCLA! My top 3 would be Petersen (Boise St), Patterson (TCU), and Tressel. I’m sure we could backload his contract and pay him the majority of it after he has kept a clean program. I don’t think that would be a problem. I’m sure Treasel would love a chance to clean his tarnished image. It’s taking a chance, but it’s one worth taking! I would renew my season tickets for sure!

    Ed, you were probably called an idiot because Tressel is very likely to be slapped with a “show-cause” penalty by the NCAA. You were probably called lazy because even a quick google search will pop up a ton of articles that spell out why this means he will not be hired by any college this year or the next. He is essentially unemployable with a show cause penalty hanging over him. It is a non starter.

      The NCAA has not ruled yet and the show cause is “likely”. I’ve read them. I read the SI article as well. That did not stop Akron from offering him a job and this was just my opinion. That he should be interviewed and see if its possible. He’s the best coach out there. Bottom line UCLA is not going to like anyone they hire. Go look at Rick N teams at CO and WA and tell me who was slimy. That didn’t stop UCLA from hiring Rick. In a few years everyone will forget what JT did. He’ll be coaching again and winning. Where….is anyones guess.

      Why would us sc fans care if you hired this guy?? We’ve beaten his sorry teams!! We all know the big 10 football sucks!! We’ve won like 10 + straight games against the big 10. With their so called good players. So what is he going to do to save your sorry team for us pounding you ever year with the lousy
      players you get ever year?? You guys are just haters wishing your school could play football like the one and only true football team in LA. Also bring it dont sing it!!     As an ASU alum, i have been praying we would make a run at tressel since day one. Say what you want, the man can coach. And if any of you would actually take the time to look into what it is he did to get run out of town, you would realize it really wasnt that bad. Does more to show the bs that is the NCAA.

    Tressel would be a great hire for UCLA….I’m a Buckeye (duh!) and a big Tressel fan having been raised in Youngstown……he’s a man of great integrity, despite what came out in the ‘news’ last year….he really does have the best interest of his young men at heart and runs a great program, turning young kids into men of principle and character……again, we all fall short of the standard before us and Coach Tressel is no different…..made a mistake and is paying for it, he’ll be the first to admit it.

    Think UCLA needs someone like Tressel to attract and pull kids from the grip of USC….he’d restore the University to a position of respect and consideration once again!

    It would be the best thing to happen to UCLA in years…. actually be competitive again in the pac 12..

    What his players did is miniscule compared to other programs like Miami, NC and Penn State..

    There are no totally clean programs in the Top of College Football….. Every program is guilty of some type of infraction……

    I think Snooki or Miley Cyrus would be better coaches at UCLA than Jim “tattoo” Tressel. He might bring them down to the level of the thugs down at SC. Then again, a lot of those guys he recruited at OSU were in the dumb thug categtory. If UCLA wants to take the chance, they will get what they deserve!

    Time to stop bashing Tressel. He was the victim of a media driven frenzy. Do you really think some tattoos traded for autographs deserves banishment from the game? Get real guys. He messed up. I am sure he learned something from his mistakes. He doesn’t deserve to be denied a chance to earn a living, especially when you compare his trangressions to what happened at Penn State.
