[Update: Brown has been suspended one game by Illinois.]
Illinois erased a three-score deficit in the second half en route to a 38-35 victory over Northwestern and its first 5-0 start in decades.
But lost in all the hoopla around the Illini is a gutless cheap shot from linebacker Jonathan Brown, who kneed Northwestern offensive lineman Patrick Ward in the groin in the first half.
Check the video of Brown looking around to see if anyone was watching before hitting Ward with the shot below the belt. Forget the fans in the stands and those watching on television, Brown could not avoid the eyes of the referees who flagged him for a personal foul.
In addition, we wouldn’t be surprised if Brown’s cheap shot catches the collective eye of the Big Ten, which won’t take kindly to that behavior, either. In trying to make sure no one was watching, it looks like Brown caught everyone’s attention.
