‘Cheergate’ Spices Up Oregon Civil War

Cat fight!

“The Civil War” rivalry between in-state foes Oregon and Oregon State just got a little more heated thanks to a cheerleader controversy of all things.

According to the Oregonian, the Beavers’ dance team and cheerleaders weren’t allowed on the court Sunday at Oregon’s Matthew Knight Arena. They traveled with the basketball team and paid for the trip and tickets just to end up seated with the rest of the paying customers.

Oregon State assistant athletic director for marketing and promotions Nikki Pruett told the newspaper: “We were just told by (Oregon) that they didn’t have space accommodations for us, so we did not send our cheer team. Basically it was a University of Oregon decision.’’

The Beavers ended up winning the game, 76-71, but took the high road when it came to “Cheergate,” but people on Twitter weren’t as pleasant considering the enormity of Oregon’s new basketball arena.

Personally, we think it’s ridiculous Oregon couldn’t clear some space for the opposing cheerleaders.

But considering that the Ducks cheer squad and dance team always has fans drooling over them, people may not have even noticed the Oregon State cheerleaders anyway.

its basketball bro…talk to me when you win the football game

  8. Joe Duck says:

Wait! The Beaver Girls had to pay for their own trip to Eugene? That’s all of 30 miles from Corn Valley (Corvallis). How did they get there? And if they had to buy their own admission tickets, that is the responsibility of their own team management, not on the host team!

Something about this story doesn’t sound right.
