Navy will join the Big East as a football-only member starting in 2015, according to CBSSports.com.
Boise State and San Diego State already have been added as football-only members, while UCF, Houston and SMU are in for all sports. All five schools will join the league in 2013.
The addition of the Midshipmen wasn’t a foregone conclusion because the service academy had complications with scheduling and television deals that already have been set for years going forward.
With West Virginia, Syracuse and Pittsburgh leaving, the addition of the aforementioned six teams will leave the Big East with 11 teams for football spread throughout the country.
But it remains to be seen if the new schools will allow the league to retain its automatic-qualifying status in the BCS.
